This essay describes four phenomena: the retuning of perception, the erosion of presence through uncertainty, empathy becoming a model, and the fear of revealing one’s ignorance to a machine. AI does not take away empathy, trust, or competence; it makes them visible structures that require more conscious, embodied presence.
